Social Studies

Dear Parents,

We have been looking at the concept of Federalism, and how it was tested through the first years of America's history. Particularly, we have focused on the system of slavery and how it was to become the ultimate test of Federalism.

After looking at various primary documents that attempted to justify the system of slavery economically, socially, politically an religiously, we discussed how this propaganda was used in order to ensure that slavery was completely entrenched in American life.

We then used the techniques seen to create our own counter propaganda.

There is a test coming up next week, try the links below for practice quizzes or ideas

Math Class

The 8th grade students really impressed me how fast they learned all the rules of exponents. They were able to master the Powers of Products, Powers of Quotients, Powers of Powers, Products of Powers and Quotient of Powers Rules ! And when I gave them examples combining all of these rules they were able to do  them beautifully!
We ended our week with a Readers Theater about exponents that we "performed" to Mr. Berlin. It was a humorous way to review the rules, and everyone enjoyed!!
I am confident that all the students are going to do well on the Test.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Dear Parents,

As we come to the end of out first month of school, we can look back with pride at how much we have accomplished in Social Studies.

After our introductory look at the geography of the world, focusing on prominent countries in every continent, as well as the phyiscal highlights of Europe, we are ready to look at America's role in the world.
We are starting our unit looking at how America went from being a newly formed, small country, to become a world power as we know it today.

Our class discussions span the world of poitics, economics, current events and sociology, creating fascinating and thought provoking ideas.

Wishing you all an easy fast, and a wonderful year
